HVAC

How often should I have my HVAC system serviced?

We recommend professional maintenance twice a year — once in spring before cooling season and once in fall before heating season. Regular maintenance improves efficiency by 15–20%, extends equipment life, and helps prevent unexpected breakdowns.

How long does a typical HVAC system last?

A well-maintained air conditioner typically lasts 15–20 years, furnaces 20–25 years, and heat pumps 15–20 years. The single biggest factor in equipment lifespan is regular professional maintenance.

Can a new HVAC system really lower my energy bills?

Yes. If your current system is 10+ years old, upgrading to a modern high-efficiency unit can reduce heating and cooling costs by 20–50%. Variable-speed compressors, higher SEER ratings, and proper sizing all contribute to real, measurable savings.

Should I repair or replace my HVAC system?

Generally, if your system is under 10 years old and the repair costs less than 50% of a new system, repair makes sense. If it's over 15 years old, needs frequent repairs, or uses R-22 refrigerant (phased out), replacement is usually the better investment. We always provide an honest recommendation.

What are the benefits of a heat pump over a furnace?

Heat pumps provide both heating and cooling from a single system, run on electricity (no combustion or gas lines needed), and can be 2–3 times more efficient than traditional furnaces. Modern cold-climate heat pumps work effectively in temperatures as low as -15°F.

How often should ductwork be cleaned?

The EPA recommends duct cleaning when there's visible mold, vermin infestation, or excessive dust and debris. For most homes, duct cleaning every 3–5 years combined with annual filter changes and duct sealing provides optimal air quality and system efficiency.

Solar

How long does it take for solar panels to pay for themselves?

Most homeowners see a full return on their solar investment within 5–8 years, depending on system size, electricity rates, and available incentives. After payback, you enjoy 17–20+ years of virtually free electricity.

What is net metering and how does it work?

Net metering allows you to send excess solar electricity back to the grid in exchange for utility credits. When your panels produce more than you use (typically during sunny daytime hours), the surplus flows to the grid and you receive a credit that offsets electricity you draw at night or on cloudy days.

Do I need a battery with my solar system?

A battery isn't required for a grid-tied solar system — net metering handles surplus energy effectively. However, batteries provide backup power during outages, allow you to use stored solar energy during peak rate hours, and move you toward full energy independence. They're especially valuable if your area has time-of-use rates or frequent outages.

Is my roof suitable for solar panels?

Most roofs with south, east, or west-facing exposure and minimal shading are good candidates. We perform a thorough assessment including shade analysis, structural evaluation, and roof condition review. If your roof needs repair or replacement first, our roofing team can handle that before solar installation.

How long do solar panels last?

Premium solar panels have a productive lifespan of 25–30+ years. Manufacturers guarantee at least 80% of rated output at 25 years. The panels continue producing electricity beyond that — just at a slowly declining rate. Inverters typically last 12–15 years.

Will solar panels damage my roof?

No. Professional solar installation actually protects the portion of roof beneath the panels from UV exposure and weathering. We use industry-standard mounting systems with flashed attachments that maintain your roof's waterproof integrity. Our installation workmanship is guaranteed for 10 years.

Roofing

How do I know if my roof needs to be replaced?

Warning signs include curling or missing shingles, granule buildup in gutters, daylight visible through the attic, water stains on ceilings or walls, sagging areas, and a roof that's 20+ years old. We provide free inspections with honest repair-vs-replace recommendations.

How long does a new roof last?

Architectural asphalt shingles typically last 25–30 years, while standing seam metal roofing can last 40–70 years. Actual lifespan depends on material quality, installation, attic ventilation, and regular maintenance.

Do you help with insurance claims for storm damage?

Yes. We have extensive experience working with all major insurance carriers. We document damage with detailed photos and measurements, meet with adjusters on-site, and advocate on your behalf to ensure your claim covers the full scope of needed repairs.

What roofing materials do you recommend?

The best material depends on your home's architecture, budget, and climate. Architectural asphalt shingles offer the best value for most homes, while metal roofing provides superior longevity and energy efficiency. We carry products from GAF, CertainTeed, Owens Corning, and other premium manufacturers.

How long does a roof replacement take?

Most residential roof replacements are completed in 1–3 days depending on roof size, complexity, and weather conditions. We'll provide a specific timeline before starting and keep you informed of any adjustments.

Financing

Does applying for financing affect my credit score?

Our financing partners offer pre-qualification with a soft credit check that does not affect your credit score. A hard inquiry is only performed if you choose to proceed with a formal application.

What financing terms are available?

We offer a range of options including 0% APR for 18 months on home improvement projects, solar-specific financing with terms up to 25 years, and emergency repair financing with quick approval. Terms and rates vary by program and creditworthiness.

How quickly can I get approved for financing?

Most financing applications are processed in minutes, and you can receive a decision the same day. For larger projects, our team helps you navigate the application process and can often have approval within 24 hours.

Can I combine financing with rebates and tax credits?

Absolutely. Financing covers the upfront cost, while tax credits and rebates reduce your overall expense. Many homeowners finance the full project cost and then apply their tax credit refund toward the loan balance, effectively reducing what they owe.

Our Process

How long does a typical project take from start to finish?

Timelines vary by project type: HVAC installations typically take 1–2 days, roofing replacements 1–3 days, and solar installations 1–3 days plus 2–6 weeks for permitting and utility approval. We provide a specific timeline with every proposal.

What should I expect on installation day?

Our crew arrives on time, introduces themselves, reviews the scope of work with you, and protects your property (floors, landscaping, etc.). You don't need to be home for the entire process, but we'll be available for questions and conduct a final walkthrough when complete.

Do I need to obtain permits?

No — we handle all necessary permits, inspections, and approvals as part of our service. Permit costs are included in your project price. For solar installations, we also manage utility interconnection paperwork and HOA approval if required.

How do you handle cleanup after a project?

We leave your property as clean as (or cleaner than) we found it. For roofing projects, we use magnetic nail sweepers and perform a thorough debris cleanup. For HVAC and solar installations, we remove all packaging and old equipment. A final walkthrough ensures your complete satisfaction.
